Next Gen is a catch all term for a variety of technology driven enhancements to the Walt Disney World resort. This has included back of the house improvements as well many things that are visible to guests.
To date completed enhancements linked to Next Gen are as follows:
- Interactive Queue upgrades at The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and The Haunted Mansion.
- Park Entrances and Ticket media converted to RFID
- Resort room keycards converted to RFID
Additional updates have come to the official DisneyWorld.com site where guests can create a user profile called My Disney Experience. This integrates with a mobile application to provide guests with wait times, reservations and more.
In addition to the RFID enabled tickets, guests can opt to have their ticket come in the form of a bracelet referred to as a Magic Band. The Magic Band can act as a guest's park ticket, hotel room key, Fastpass+ entry key, credit card and Disney Dining Plan key.
Fastpass+ is the evolution of the current Fastpass system that will allow guests to reserve spots at up to 3 attractions each day. These reservations can be made up to 60 days in advance for resort guests and annual passholders.
Together, the integration of the My Disney Experience app/online profile, the Magic Band, and Fastpass+ all make up My Magic +: the evolution of the Disney guest experience.
