Expansion to ESPN Wide World of Sports

Specific Details

Disney is building a new multi-story building North of the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. This building will be used for cheerleading and dance events.

The new building will be located next to the Jostens Center. It will be multi-story and have a 179,000 sq ft footprint with a total of 286,000 sq ft. The facility will be able to hold more than 8000 fans in a flexible competition space. It is the only venue of it's kind

Rumor Timeline

January 12, 2018: The new arena officially opened in a ribbon cutting ceremony. Attractions Magazine posted a video of the ceremony to YouTube.

October 28, 2017: WDWMagic.com user WDWtraveler has posted a series of photos on the expansion to ESPN's Wide World of Sports.

July 25, 2016: The Disney Parks Blog revealed concept art and details of the expansion coming to ESPN's Wide World of Sports.

The new facility will be constructed next to the Jostens Center and it will feature a flexible competition space capable of seating more than 8000 fans in up to four different competition areas.

The venue will be designed with both cheerleading and dance competitions in mind will be the only venue of its kind in North America. It is expected to debut within 18 months.

February 5, 2016: WDWMagic.com is reporting that Disney has confirmed the expansion to ESPN's Wide World of Sports Complex. The new facility will be used for cheerleading and dance events.

January 27, 2016: WDWMagic.com user danlb_2000 has reported that Disney has filed a Notice of Commencement with the South Florida Water Management District for a new building at ESPN's Wide World of Sports Complex.

The building will be multi-story and have a 179,000 sq ft footprint with a total of 286,000 sq ft and will reside North of the existing property.
